Is it any wonder as Winter deepens that one of the best selling calendars each year is the “On The Porch Calendar” ? We have wistful thoughts of warmer and longer days plus the activities we would enjoy on our porches – even if we do not currently have one.
One gracious home that I am marketing in Katonah has two porches. One is an inviting rocking chair porch perfect for welcoming guests or your children from the school bus. The other is an elegant open air screened room where you would get away for awhile with a good read or to entertain before heading out to the pool which has its own delightful outdoor living area. I would just live on those porches all the time.
The historic home that I sold in the Hamlet of Katonah earlier this year had a very deep porch with wide stairs to the front lawn that invited “setting awhile” and conversation. It is also the perfect spot to watch the Annual Katonah Fireman’s Parade as the 80 fire companies and marching bands make their way through town.
I have fond memories from my childhood concerning porches. We had one on the front of our Tarrytown Dutch Colonial where we used to play school, hopscotch, stay out of the rain with friends, read our books in the big wicker rocking chairs and as the evening progressed be under the watchful eye of parents enjoying their dessert and the cool evening breezes.
There’s just something about a Porch…
